July 30 Fishing Report

Welcome to this weeks fishing report. It’s been a great week on our area waters. Here’s whats happening.

Madison River – If your a dry fly nut, then the Madison is where you need to be. Caddis, Yellow Sallies, PMD’s and Terestrials are all going strong all the way down to Ennis. We were taking out at Ruby last week and couldnt believe the amount of big hoppers along the banks. Have plenty of Hoppers in your box for the upcoming weeks!  If your on the river and dont find a whole lot of dry fly activity, nymphs have been getting the job done as usual. Caddis Larva, Crystal dips and PMD nymphs below a Rubber legs have been doing the best,

Henry’s Fork –  We’re at our mid summer routine on the Ranch section. Morning and evening spinner falls of PMD’s, and Flavs will get you some fish. Be on the lookout for Trico’s Callibaetis and flying ants as well.  Box Canyon is still seeing Golden Stones and running a dry dropper with a small tungsten bead head will produce well. We have been using Bullet quills, Zebra midges and split case PMD’s as droppers and getting good numbers to the net.

Yellowstone National Park – Slough Creek, Lamar and Soda Butte have came into prime fishing. PMD’s, Caddis and Terrestrials are on the menu. The Yellowstone River is still fishing lights out good using Golden Stones, PMD’s, Flavs, Grey Drakes and Caddis. Yhe Gallatin River is starting to warm up and th fishing has been great. We have been on this river almost every day this past week and it continues to amaze us both in numbers and size of the fish. PMD’s Caddis, Flavs, Yellow Sallies and Golden Stones have been our go to flies. Dont forget your bug spray as the biting flies are out in numbers as well.

Henry’s Lake – Henry’s lake has been fishing OK in the mornings near the creeks coming into the lake. Once the sun gets high in the sky, its time to get off the lake and go find a nice cool river to fish. Damsel nymphs, semiseal leaches in black/red and olives have been fishing the best. You know its slow when you look out on the lake and the only activity during the day is water skiers and wake boarders out having a good time.

Hebgen Lake – It’s finally getting to be gulper time. Callibaetis nymphs and dries are the flies. Trico’s should show up as well. We prefer the bays such as Cherry Creek, Rumbaugh and the Madison arm for best results.

That’s about it for this weeks report. If your looking for the best, most knowledgeable guides in the area give us a call at
