Weekly Fishing Report 8/5/19

It’s hard to believe were already into August. This summer’s fishing has been incredible with even better fishing yet to come. Here is our report for this week.

Madison River – The Madison has been pretty consistent lately with daily hatches of Caddis, Yellow Sallies and PMD’s. Focus on working the slicks in the pocket water as well as the riffles. We had a good day out fishing a Purple Chubbie to imitate a nocturnal stone with a PMD nymph or Zebra midge dropper. The hoppers are doing well from Ruby on down to Ennis. If you want to nymph, we would be using a Prince nymph followed by a small bead head nymph such as a brown Zebra midge or olive Bullet Quill.

Henry’s Fork – There have been good days being had out on the fork using PMD’s, Flavs, Caddis, Hoppers and Ants. PMD’s and rusty spinners for the morning hours, Hoppers and Ants during the day and Caddis for the evening. Don’t forget that as summer lingers on, the Caddis get smaller. We have been getting our best results using a size 16 or 18 caddis. The Hoppers are also smaller right now. The lower river past Ashton has also been seeing good action using the larger hoppers. Tan and Yellow being the best colors right now.

Yellowstone National Park – The Northeast corner fished solid this week. Slough, Soda Butte and the Lamar are all fishing well. PMD’s, Caddis and Terrestrials are the name of the game. There are plenty of people out there, so don’t be afraid to walk a little bit to get away from the crowds and you will be rewarded. The Yellowstone is still fishing well using the above flies as well with still a few Flavs still around. We have spent most of our time on the Gallatin this past week with PMD’s and Caddis getting the most to the net. PMD cripples were the hot fly of the week on the Gallatin.

Henry’s Lake – Henry’s is still fishing in the morning hours. Be out near the creek mouths ( Targhee, Hope, Duck etc… )  by 6 am and fish till noon then go take a nap or run up and fish the Gallatin or Madison. Smaller semiseal leaches in black/red, olive’s  and brown will get the fish.

Hebgen Lake – The hatches of Trico’s and Callibaetis have been more consistent. Focus your attention on the bays and arms of the lake. We had a couple good days out by Cherry Creek and Rumbaugh bay. It’s gulper time, go hunt some heads.

Our August has been filling in nicely but we still have some great dates available. If your looking for the best, most knowledgeable guides in the area give us a call at 208-604-6968.
